Mentor Woman's Club Fundraising

Mentor Woman's Club Ways and Means Committee bears the responsibility for determining and completing the one annual project most suitable for raising funds needed for the budget and for the continuing obligations and services of the Club.

In 1947, the play "Dear Ruth" was the Club's first large-scale fundraising project. The play was produced and directed by Club members. With the proceeds, bonds were purchased for promoting and developing a community house. Following this successful benefit, plays such as "Our Town," "The Great Big Doorstep," "Chicken Every Sunday," and "Ladies of the Jury," were presented with proceeds used for scholarships for Mentor (Ohio) students.

Over the years, other annual benefits included luncheon style shows, White Elephant shows, Singers' Club of Cleveland concerts, Great Lakes Ball, and Collector's Cornucopia (arts & crafts show and sale) which continued for 29 years.

The last two highly successful benefits have been an afternoon luncheon followed by a Chinese auction, a gift basket auction, and 50/50 raffle. Held on Saturday, November 3, 2007, the theme of this year's benefit was "Cruisin with the Club--Rock & Roll."
